In the meetings held on the fringes of the UN General Assembly in New York, Zarif and his counterparts exchanged views about a range of issues, including promotion of bilateral relations.
The latest developments in the Middle East region and the world, including the massacre of civilians in Yemen by the Saudi-led coalition and the recent crush in Mina, near Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which led to the deaths of hundreds of Hajj pilgrims, were among other topics discussed in the meetings.
According to Iranian officials, about 4,700 pilgrims, including 464 Iranians, were killed in the crush in Mina on September 24 when performing religious rites. With the death toll rising, many pilgrims are still unaccounted for in the incident that marked the worst Hajj disaster in 25 years.
In Yemen, the impoverished country’s defenseless people have been under massive airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition for more than six months.
On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies, including the UAE, began to launch deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
