Iran Condemns Terror Attack in Cote d'Ivoire

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari strongly condemned a terror attack in Cote d'Ivoire, which killed at least 16 people and sent tourists fleeing through the historic town of Grand Bassam.

In a statement on Monday, Jaberi Ansari expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims and the people and government of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire.

The Iranian spokesman further stressed the necessity for global efforts to fight against the inauspicious phenomenon of terrorism.

Sixteen people, including four Europeans and two soldiers, were killed in Grand Bassam when gunmen opened fire in the popular tourist destination on Sunday, Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara said.

The six attackers were also killed, and "the situation is under control," he said.

Twenty-two other people, including three Special Forces, were injured, he added.

Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the assaults.

The attackers, who were split into two groups, continued the attack for more than three hours, Ouattara said. Special Forces troops arrived within 45 minutes, he said.
