Syrians Get Ready for Parliamentary Votes

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian people are gearing up to vote in the parliamentary election on April 13 amid a wave of enthusiasm and campaigns that have filled the streets of capital Damascus with posters and billboards of candidates.

According to Tasnim dispatches, candidates have focused on different issues as the overriding problems they will try to fix after winning a seat in the parliament.

Some have cited security and calm as their immediate priority, while others have opted for ways to manage the economy or a national reconciliation, five years after the outset of a civil war in the Arab country.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has set April 13 as the date for the parliamentary elections. The polls will be held at the usual time as the Syrian government holds such elections every four years.

The last parliamentary elections were held in 2012, just months after the adoption of a new constitution in the crisis-ridden country.
