Iran, Venezuela Keen to Promote Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Top diplomats from Iran and Venezuela weighed plans at a meeting in Tehran to boost bilateral relations in a range of fields, particularly trade ties.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Venezuelan counterpart Delcy Eloina Rodriguez Gomez held a meeting in Tehran on Saturday.

Voicing Iran’s eagerness to broaden ties with Venezuela, Zarif said the two countries need to strengthen cooperation in the international organizations.

He also called for closer cooperation between Tehran and Caracas in the pharmaceutical industry, implementation of joint projects and banking ties.

The visiting Venezuelan minister, for her part, said the Latin American nation is prepared to enhance relations with Iran and push for the success of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

She also invited Foreign Minister Zarif to visit Venezuela.

Earlier in January, Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro paid an official visit to Tehran and held meetings with ranking Iranian officials.
