Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar Must Stop Funding Extremists: Clinton

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – US Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton issued a pointed warning to US allies in the Middle East, saying Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar must stop supporting extremism.

"It is long past time for the Saudis, the Qataris, and the Kuwaitis and others to stop their citizens from funding extremist organizations," Clinton said in a national security speech in Cleveland, Ohio, on Monday, AFP reported.

"And they should stop supporting radical schools and mosques around the world that have set too many young people on a path toward extremism,” she added.

Clinton further referred to the weekend mass shooting in Orlando which left nearly 50 people dead and said, "The Orlando terrorist may be dead, but the virus that poisoned his mind remains very much alive and we must attack it with clear eyes, steady hands, unwavering determination and pride in our country and our values.”

"The threat is metastasizing," she added.

A man armed with an assault rifle and pledging loyalty to Daesh (also known as ISIL and ISIS) killed and injured scores of people during a celebration at Pulse nightclub in Orlando early Sunday in the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

Later, Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack through its so-called Amaq news agency.
