China, Iran Share Points at World Cup Qualifier

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – China's national football team drew 0-0 with Iran in the Russia 2018 Asian Qualifier on Tuesday.

In the match held at Shenyang Olympic Stadium, Chinese and Iranian teams created opportunities but the match finished in goalless draw.

The host looked much livelier after the break but failed to open Alireza Beiranvand’s goal.

Iran has defeated Qatar 2-0 in its first match, while China lost to South Korea 3-2.

Iran has been drawn in Group A of the World Cup qualification along with South Korea, Uzbekistan, China, Qatar and Syria.

Japan has been pitted against Australia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iraq and Thailand in Group B.

The winner and runner-up of each group will advance to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, while the third-placed teams will head to the play-off round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The winner of the Asian play-off round will face twice the fourth-placed squad in the fifth round of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) qualifying games.
