Azeri Speaker Urges Closer Parliamentary Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly Ogtay Asadov called for efforts to promote cooperation between Tehran and Baku, particularly in the parliamentary field.

In a meeting with Iran’s outgoing ambassador to Azerbaijan, held in Baku on Wednesday, Asadov said stronger parliamentary, economic, cultural and academic relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan will serve the interests of the two Muslim neighbors.

He also officially invited Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani to visit Azerbaijan.

The Iranian envoy, Mohsen Pakayeen, for his part, hailed growing interactions between Tehran and Baku in various fields, as in the fight against common threats like terrorism and extremism.

Iran and Azerbaijan have accelerated efforts in recent years to forge closer partnership in diverse areas.

Back in February, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev paid an official visit to Tehran, during which the two sides signed eleven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to promote mutual cooperation in a range of fields.
