Asian Water Polo Championship: Iran Defeated by Japan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran suffered a heavy defeat against Japan at the Asian Water Polo Championship semi-final.

Iran lost to the host 15-6 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium indoor pool on Friday.

Iran started the campaign with an 8-4 victory over Singapore but lost to titleholder Kazakhstan 14-4 in its second match.

The Persians beat Hong Kong 19-8 and qualified for the knockout stage as the second-placed team.

The team, headed by Serbian coach Aleksandar Ciric, defeated Saudi Arabia 15-6 to book a place in the semis.

Iran will face the loser of Kazakhstan and China in the bronze medal match.
