Obama Expected to Sign ISA into Law: White House

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The White House’s Principal Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz said he “would expect” US President Barack Obama to sign the ISA (Iran Sanctions Act).

"I would expect the president to sign this piece of legislation,” Schultz told reporters at a daily press briefing on Friday, Reuters reported.

"We believe the Iran Sanctions Act extension is not necessary, but we also believe it won't interfere with the Iran deal," he added.

His comments came after the US Senate voted 99-0 to extend the ISA for another decade. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives nearly unanimously in November, and congressional aides said they expected Obama would sign it.

Iran maintains that the measure will be a clear violation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
