Syrian Army Tightening Noose around Terrorists in Eastern Aleppo

ALEPPO (Tasnim) – The Syrian army troops backed by allied forces managed to advance in rebel-held areas in the northwestern city of Aleppo, taking full control over all but a small portion of the eastern neighborhoods of the embattled city from foreign-backed terrorists.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the Syrian army has cleared most of eastern Aleppo from Takfiri terrorists, tightening the siege within an area of 10 square kilometers.

Army spokesman Brigadier General Samir Suleiman told the Tasnim News Agency that what is going on in Aleppo is part of a massive operation that started on September 22.

Speaking to Tasnim, a field commander in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo pointed to the civilians leaving the areas, saying the army forces saved these people who lived under siege laid by terrorists.

According to media reports, nearly 100,000 civilians have fled from the militant-held areas to government-controlled parts.

Syrian army troops backed by allied forces are fighting to recapture the strategic city from the foreign-backed terrorist groups.

The security forces encircled Aleppo on July 17 after closing off the last terrorist-controlled route into the city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
