Tehran, Astana to Expand Banking Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Presidents of Iran and Kazakhstan agreed on Thursday to give a boost to banking relations between the two countries.
At a joint meeting of Iran-Kazakhstan high-ranking delegations in Astana on Thursday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev came up with a plan to enhance banking interaction between the two nations.
The two sides agreed to hold a joint session in the near future, to be attended by officials from the central banks of the two countries, in order to begin a new round of banking interaction by opening new branches and initiating broad banking transactions.
As regards the ways to cement bilateral ties, President Rouhani said the Iranian private companies are eager to carry out projects in Kazakhstan in the energy industry, agriculture, construction activities as well as technical and engineering services.
Nazarbayev, for his part, hailed Iran as Kazakhstan’s “best friend in the Islamic world,” noting that the Astana government supports collaboration between private sectors of the two countries in various fields.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, President Rouhani arrived in Astana on Thursday morning.
The two countries signed five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and cooperation agreements in a high-profile meeting. One of the MoUs was signed between the Central Bank of Iran and the National Bank of Kazakhstan.
The Iranian president began a tour of regional countries by visiting Armenia on Wednesday. He left Kazakhstan for Kyrgyzstan today.
