Iranian Woman Taravat Khaksar Wins Gold at Karate1 Premier League

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Taravat Khaksar from Iran snatched a gold medal at the Karate1 Premier League, Paris 2017, on Sunday.

In the women’s under 55kg kumite competition, Khaksar, who is ranked at number 49 in the world, defeated Scotland’s Amy Connell 2-0 in the final and improved on her best result of bronze in Jakarta back in 2014.

The Iranian woman started the competition with a win over Anzhelika Terluyga from Ukraine.

She beat Armande Michel from France 9-0 and Montenegro’s Ana Draskovic 6-0 respectively.

Khaksar then beat Japanese Mamiko Gomyo 8-1 and Cristina Ferrer Garcia from Spain 3-0.

The Iranian representative also beat Sara Yamada from Japan in the semi-final.

Iran’s Zabihollah Poorshab and Saman Heydari also claimed two bronze medals in the -84kg and +84kg.

More than 1000 entrants from 77 nations have competed in the competition in Paris, France.
