Last Daesh Stronghold near Aleppo Besieged by Syrian Army

ALEPPO (Tasnim) –Syrian army troops backed by allied forces managed to lay a siege to the last stronghold of the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the Syrian forces continued their advances in Aleppo suburbs and managed to surround Dayr Hafir, the last town in the area that is still under the control of Daesh terrorists.

The town is 50 kilometers east of Aleppo.

The army had already liberated several towns and villages near Dayr Hafir, including Tall Abu Susah and Ahmadiyah, after heavy clashes with the terrorists.

In another development, the Syrian forces managed to retake Khattab, a town in the northwestern suburbs of Hama from Daesh terrorists.

On Wednesday, a Syrian military source said the army is sending reinforcements to face a major militant offensive in Hama province.

The military source said the Takfiri groups had mobilized large numbers for the assault that was targeting towns including Soran, some 20 km (12 miles) north of Hama city, and Khattab, about 10 km northwest of it.

Battles were ongoing in both places, the military source said at the time. "Reinforcements are now being sent," the source added.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
