Saudi Serviceman Killed in Yemeni Forces’ Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Saudi interior ministry acknowledged that a Saudi serviceman was shot and killed in an attack mounted by the Yemeni forces in Asir Region, southwest of the kingdom.

A spokesman for the ministry said on Thursday that a member of the Saudi military has been killed following an attack by Yemen’s army and popular committees in Zahran Al Janoub in Asir Region, Saudi media reports said.

According to another report by the Arabic-language al-Ahed news website on Thursday, Yemeni army soldiers backed by fighters from Popular Committees launched major offensives against Saudi positions in the kingdom’s southwestern province of Jizan, leaving scores of soldiers dead and injured.

Yemeni forces targeted five Saudi military bases in Jizan, inflicting significant casualties and damage on them.

The report added that nearly 40 Saudi troops were either killed or injured in the process of the clashes.

In addition, seven vehicles belonging to the regime were destroyed in the multi-pronged operation.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

At least 11,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
