Hostage Siege in Iran Ends with Captor’s Suicide Attempt as Police Raid Hideout

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian police forces ended a hostage-taking in the northeastern city of Mashhad on Wednesday, storming a dwelling where a gunman had held a mother and two children for hours.

The captor opened fire when the police stormed the house, police commander of Khorassan Razavi Province, General Bahman Amiri, told Tasnim on Wednesday.

The mother sustained minor injuries during the operation, while the captor wounded his throat in a suicide attempt, the commander noted, saying both have been hospitalized.

Mashhad, capital of Khorassan Razavi and Iran’s second largest city, is located 920 km east of Tehran.
