Israeli Soldier Wounded by Knife at West Bank Checkpoint

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Palestinian woman on Monday injured an Israeli soldier in a stabbing in the occupied territories.

The incident took place at the Qalandiya checkpoint, which is the main crossing into the West Bank city of Ramallah early in the morning, Lebanon’s al-Ahed news network reported.

The assailant, who was detained later, was wounded while trying to flee the scene.

The Israeli police claimed that the Palestinian assailant, a resident of the West Bank, approached the soldier saying she wanted to ask a question when she pulled out a knife from her bag.

A similar incident took place in Tel Aviv on Saturday when a Palestinian man injured at least four people with knife there.

The occupied Palestinian territories have witnessed tensions ever since Israel imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem (al-Quds) in August 2015.

About 280 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces in the tensions since the beginning of October that year.

Recently, the Tel Aviv regime has handed down harsh sentences to the Palestinians purportedly convicted of stabbing attacks.
