Envoy Underlines Media Outlets’ Role in Boosting Tehran-Ankara Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Ambassador to Turkey Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian Fard praised bilateral relations between the two countries as “growing” and said media outlets can play a major role in promoting the two neighbors’ ties in diverse areas.

Speaking at a meeting with the managers of some Turkish media outlets in Ankara, Taherian Fard highlighted mutual and regional cooperation between Tehran and Ankara, in various spheres, economy in particular.

“The current volume of bilateral trade between Iran and Turkey amounts to $11 billion and the trend is moving toward prospect for $30 billion that is anticipated by the presidents of the two countries,” he noted.

He further described the role of the two countries’ media outlets in boosting the bilateral relations as important and said the media have major duty to form the public opinion in line with efforts to improve ties between the two neighboring countries.

Iran and Turkey have repeatedly announced that they are resolved to achieve the goal of $30 billion in bilateral trade.

In April last year, Iran and Turkey signed eight memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas.

The cooperation documents were signed in a ceremony in Ankara attended by the presidents of the two countries.

The documents covered a range of fields, including higher education, social security, plant maintenance services and standardization.
