Syria Army Recaptures Key Oil Field in Homs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains in their fight against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in Homs, managing to establish control over a major oil field in the central province.

On Wednesday, Syrian forces pushed deep into Badiya desert and retook al-Hael oil field in the eastern countryside of Palmyra in Homs province, SANA news agency reported.

A large number of the terrorists were killed during the clashes.

In a separate development, the Syrian government forces shelled the positions of the Takfiri terrorists in the areas of al-Bghiliyeh, al-Rashdiyeh, al-Hamidiyeh, al-Howeiqa, Howeijet Katea, al-Jneineh and al-Bghiliyeh in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, inflicting major losses on them.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August 2016 that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
