Over 40 Daesh Militants Killed in Syria’s Homs
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies foiled a major attack by the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) Takfiri group in Homs, killing at least 40 terrorists in the central province.
The Daesh Takfiri militants on Sunday suffered major losses in the district of Maksar al-Husan in Homs after they attempted to sneak into the neighborhood and target the Syrian army’s military posts there, SANA news agency reported.
More than 40 terrorists were killed in the counterattack, the report added.
Later in the day, Syrian troops established control over a number of key hilltops in the area of al-Bgheilieh in the eastern countryside of Homs, inflicting heavy losses upon the terrorists.
In a separate development, the Syrian forces shelled the gathering centers of the ISIL militants in the areas of Khasarat, Kanamat, al-Ommal, al-Bogheiliyeh, Safira Tahtani, al-Husseniyeh, al-Boleil and al-Mohassan in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, killing and injuring a large group of them, including ringleaders.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
