Syria Army Recaptures Several Areas in Raqqah

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains in their military campaign against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in Raqqah, retaking several areas in the northern province.

On Wednesday, the Syrian army stepped up its attacks against Daesh militants in the districts of Baida in Raqqa, retaking several villages and towns, including Huweijet Shanan, al-Rahbi, al-Sabkheh, al-Jebli, al-Rabieh, al-Ziabiyeh, al-Mastaha, and Shumra, SANA news agency reported.

A large number of the terrorists were killed and injured in the clashes.

In a separate development, the army repelled a major attack by the terror group in nearby areas of al- Shoumariyeh Mountains in the central province of Homs, inflicting major losses on them.

Additionally, the terrorists suffered serious setbacks in Hama province after their positions were targeted in the areas of Jana al-Ilbawi, Qaleib al-Thour, Salba, al-Dkeila al-Shemalieh, and al-Dkeila al- Janobieh.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
