Bahraini Regime Intensifies Pressure on Political Prisoners
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In reaction to a mass hunger strike by Bahraini political prisoners, the Al Khalifa regime intensified clampdown on the inmates kept in various prisons in the Persian Gulf country, including al-Hawd al-Jaf (Dry Dock) Detention Center.
The families of prisoners held in Dry Dock Detention Center on Muharraq Island said the prison’s authorities have increased pressures on their beloved ones and prevented them from having items they need, the Arabic-language al-Ahed news website reported.
The Shiite prisoners are also concerned about the regime’s restrictions on religious rituals due to be held in the lunar month of Muharram.
During the first 10 days of Muharram, Shiite Muslims hold mourning ceremonies to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions.
Last week, the Al Khalifa regime attacked inmates kept in Bahrain’s notorious Jaw prison.
The regime forces raided one of the buildings of the prison and battered political prisoners there, the Arabic-language Lualua TV network reported on Sunday.
The attack came after the prisoners began a mass hunger strike on Saturday in protest at the appalling conditions of the prison.
About 4,000 inmates in Jaw Prison are facing mistreatment and deprivation of the most basic rights, the prisoners said in a message addressed to the Bahraini people back in July.
In the message, the inmates also called on the people of the Persian Gulf country to take action to save them from the ongoing oppression.
