Iran Sanda Team Wins World Wushu Championships

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian sanda practitioners made history, winning the World Wushu Championships for the first time.

The Iranian fighters claimed seven gold medals and one silver in the competition.

China became runner-up with seven gold medals and one silver. Host Russia finished in third place after winning two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

China had won 13 times out of 14 editions.

Sanda, Chinese boxing or Chinese kickboxing, is a Chinese self-defense system and combat sport.

The 14th World Wushu Championships (WWC) took place from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3 in Kazan City, Russia.

The tournament brought together approximately 860 competitors from 57 countries.
