Syria Army Scores Gains in Hawijat Kati, Al-Bukamal

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army launched a fresh assault near the provincial capital of the western city of Deir ez-Zor, targeting Daesh (ISIL) last stronghold at the large island of Hawijat Kati.

On Tuesday, Syrian forces made gains in their fight against Daesh terrorists in the area of Hawijat Kati after targeting their positions in the northeastern part of the area, Al Masdar news reported.

Additionally, as the Syrian army’s operation to clear Al-Bukamal, the last stronghold of Daesh in the Arab country near the border with Iraq, from Daesh terrorists continues, army troops clashed with the foreign-backed militants in the western axis of the city.

Media reports coming out of Syria recently said that the terror group had managed to retake some parts of al-Bukamal, two days after the Syrian army announced its full liberation.

The Syrian army and its allied fighters have seized swathes of central and eastern Syria in advances against the terror group this year.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups wreaking havoc in the country.
