Saudi Airstrikes Kill 8 Civilians in Yemen
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Aerial attacks by a Saudi-led military coalition, which has stepped up bombardment of Yemen since the killing of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, have killed eight civilians and wounded seven others in Yemen’s residential areas during the past day.
Fighters jets of the Saudi-led coalition launched attacks on a rural area in Yemen’s southeastern province of Taiz on Thursday, killing a girl and injuring two other kids.
In a separate attack, the Saudi warplanes bombed a house in al-Madid region, northeast of capital Sana’a, killing seven civilians, including five children. Five others were injured in the strike, local sources said.
Saudis have stepped up attacks on Yemen, in particular Sana’a following death of their ally, former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. Saleh was killed after betraying the Yemen revolution and allying with the Saudi-led coalition.
Yemeni capital witnessed street clashes between the Houthi Ansarullah Movement and Saleh forces in recent days, but the country’s Army Spokesman Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman said on Monday that security has been restored in the whole Sana’a province.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
