Russia Says Developments in Afrin to Further Destabilize Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said that developments in Syria’s Afrin city could lead to further destabilization of the region.

Russian Novosti news agency quoted Syromolotov as saying Thursday that developments in Afrin are fabricated and are result of the US measures.

He said that “it can really lead to even greater destabilization of this region.”

“With great sorrow, we have to assert that a new hotbed of tension is expanding in Syria,” he said, adding that “the US and Turkish opposing interests in the region are expanding further.”

Turkey's attacks on Afrin’s residential areas, infrastructure and public utilities in the past 20 days have left more than 500 civilians dead or injured, according to Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
