Iranian Top Diplomat, Serbian Speaker Meet in Belgrade

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the president of the National Assembly of Serbia, Maja Gojkovic, held talks on a range of issues, including ways to boost relations between the two countries.

Speaking at the meeting, held in Belgrade on Tuesday, Gojkovic said the National Assembly of Serbia supports efforts to promote ties with Iran in all areas, parliamentary fields in particular.

She further described her two official visits to the Islamic Republic as successful and memorable.

Zarif, for his part, hailed the growing relations between the two countries in diverse fields, economy in particular.

He further said Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani plans to pay an official visit to Serbia later this year in a bid to boost parliamentary cooperation between Tehran and Belgrade.

Zarif started his tour of the Balkans on Monday in a bid to boost relations between the Islamic Republic and countries in the Eastern European region.

After visiting Serbia, Zarif is going to pay official visits to Bulgaria, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to hold talks with senior officials of the Balkan countries.

A high-ranking political and economic delegation, including a number of Iranian entrepreneurs from the public and private sectors, are accompanying the top diplomat.
