Brazilian Delegation in Tehran for Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A delegation of Brazilian lawmakers and business people held a meeting in Tehran with ranking Iranian Foreign Ministry officials for talks on closer ties.

The delegation, including members of Brazil-Iran parliamentary friendship group and a number of Brazilian business people, met with the Iranian foreign minister’s assistant and director general of the ministry’s Americas affairs on Thursday.

In the meeting, the Iranian diplomat hailed the long history of relations between the two countries, pointing to the ample opportunities for the enhancement of economic interaction in the industrial, agricultural and trade fields.

The head of the Brazilian delegation, for his turn, highlighted Iran’s leading role in the Middle East and its contribution to peace and stability, voicing the National Congress of Brazil’s readiness to help broaden the bilateral relations.

In April, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif paid a visit to Brazil as part of a tour of Africa and South America.

“Brazil is one the world’s major economies, the main economy in Latin America, and also a BRICS member,” Zarif told reporters in Brazil, saying Iran supplied the South American country’s energy demands in the past and can now work with it in the oil and gas industry.
