Taliban Intensify Attacks on Afghan Forces

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Taliban have launched several military attacks in Afghanistan over the past days, killing, injuring and capturing dozens of security forces, Afghan sources said.

The sources said on Saturday that Taliban militants have killed 16 security personnel and injured two others in an attack in the northern province of Baghlan.

Pajhwok Afghan News quoted an unnamed security official as saying that a clash erupted between security forces and the Taliban in the Angor Bagh area of Baghlan district late on Friday night.

He said two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and seven policemen were killed and three others captured by the insurgents.

In another incident, the Taliban attacked an Afghan military base in the central province of Daikundi with an explosive-laden vehicle, killing a number of government forces and taking at least 25 forces captive.

The Taliban say they entered the military base in Ajristan district with heavy and light arms and arrested 25 Afghan army commandos.

Elsewhere in the eastern province of Ghazni, Taliban fighters tried to overrun the provincial capital after attacking security forces and killing at least 14 police officers in an overnight attack on Friday.

Ghazni police chief Farid Ahmad Mashal was quoted as saying by the Tolo News that the onslaught had been repelled, rejecting Taliban claims that its fighters had entered Ghazni City.
