Asian Women's Handball Championship: Iran Earns First Win

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran earned its first win at the 2018 Asian Women's Handball Championship on Wednesday.

Team Melli defeated New Zealand 38-19 at the Yamaga Gymnasium in Yamaga, Japan in Group A.

Team Melli had already lost to Kazakhstan (41-26), Australia (29–24) and Japan (31-8).

The Iranian woman handball team will meet either India or Hong Kong for 5th to 8th place on Friday.

The 2018 Asian Women's Handball Championship is the 17th edition of the Asian Women's Handball Championship, is being held from 30 November to 9 December 2018 in Kumamoto, Yamaga and Yatsushiro, Japan.

The tournament is held under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation and will act as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Women's Handball Championship.
