Iraqi Forces Repel Daesh Attack in Saladin Province
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraqi forces scored another major victory against Deash (ISIS or ISIL) terrorists this week by eliminating a group of the militants who launched a big attack in the Saladin Province.
An official announcement by Iraqi military from Baghdad revealed that the Iraqi forces came under a heavy attack from a group of Daesh-linked militants at the Alas Oilfield on Sunday evening, Al-Masdar reported.
The Iraqi forces engaged in fierce combat for a number of hours with the terrorists before they were able to eliminate many of the militants.
“They retreated to an unknown place taking back the wounded with them,” the North Oil Police forces said in a statement on Monday.
The Daesh attack reportedly came from one of their sleeper cells that is currently active inside the Saladin Province.
In 2017, the Iraqi forces declared that the Saladin Province was liberated after a long battle with Daesh terrorists near the Baiji Refinery.
However, Deash sleeper cells have since emerged in the province.
