Iran Seals Place at AFC U-23 Championship 2020 Finals
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran was held to a goalless draw by Iraq and advanced to the AFC U-23 Championship Thailand 2020 Finals.
Iraq qualified for the final round as Group C winner and Iran booked a place as one of the four best runners-up.
Iran started the campaign in Tehran with a 3-1 win over Turkmenistan and defeated Yemen 3-0.
The biennial tournament attracted 44 teams which were divided into 11 groups of four.
The top 11 teams and four best runners-up as well as host Thailand qualified for the finals in next year.
This AFC U-23 Championship will act as the AFC qualifiers for the Olympic football tournament. The top three teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics men's football tournament in Japan as the AFC representatives.
