Several People Wounded after Huge Explosion Hits Swedish Capital

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Several people were injured after a huge blast rocked the Swedish capital of Stockholm in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Swedish police received some calls overnight from people reporting loud banging noises in Vinsta in the western part of Stockholm, representative of the Swedish police Fredrik Andersson stated, Sputnik reported.

According to Andersson, the blast occurred at 1:00 AM local time (3:00 AM GMT).

Police have temporarily blocked off the area and started a preliminary investigation into the cause of the incident, however, at the moment there is no official information about the issue.

It is not currently clear what caused the explosion.

Windows at an adjacent building and nearby hotel were shattered in the blast, while a number of cars were also damaged, according to a police statement.

At least five people were injured, including two who were treated in hospital with mild injuries.

"No person has been detained," police added.

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and a huge tourist hotspot with thousands visiting its 14 islands connected by 50 bridges.

This is the second large blast to rock the Swedish capital this month. Previously, a bus exploded in the center of Stockholm in the Klaratunneln tunnel and swiftly caught fire. The driver, however, managed to escape the vehicle with only minor injuries.
