Protesters in Sana’a Demand Release of Ships Seized by Saudi-Led Coalition

TEHRAN (Tasnim) –Employees of Yemen Petroleum Company organized a protest in front of the United Nations office in the Yemeni capital Sana'a after Friday prayers to demand release of oil ships seized by the Saudi-led coalition.

During the protest, the official spokesman for the company, Amin Al-Shabati, said that 13 oil ships loaded with more than 320,000 tons of petroleum products were still held by the Saudi-led coalition forces, while they are greatly needed by Yemen.

Al-Shabati said that the ships had all the necessary permissions from the United Nations.

He also warned against stopping works by hospitals and vital institutions due to the continued detention by Saudi-led coalition and lack of oil derivative materials in fighting against the coronavirus pandemic, Almasirah reported.

The protesters held the United Nations responsible for the humanitarian catastrophe due to its negligence and silence on the practices of the Saudi-led coalition by preventing entry of oil ships despite being granted entry permits by the UN.

Al-Shabati said that the UN would be responsible for abandoning its obligations towards the Yemeni people if the cornavirus affects people, while the Saudis are seizing ships containing lifesaving materials.

The protesters affirmed in a statement that they will continue their open sit-in protests in front of the United Nations office until all their legitimate demands are met.

The statement also condemned the international silence and the United Nations toleration of the Saudi-led coalition aggression, which makes them partner in the inhumane siege.
