Coronavirus Updates in Iran: Over 2,600 New Cases Detected

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Of more than 2,620 new coronavirus patients detected in Iran during the past 24 hours, over 1,350 ones have been admitted to the hospital, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman announced.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Friday, Sima Sadat Lari said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 217,724 following the detection of 2,628 new cases since Thursday.

Of the new cases detected since yesterday, 1,356 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 2,912 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Sadat Lari noted.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 10,239, saying the disease has taken the lives of 109 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 177,852 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far and have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Lari also noted that 1,557,872 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 9,714,000, and the death toll has surpassed 491,000.
