Abdi Shortlisted for Best Forward of AFC Champions League Team

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Persepolis football team forward Mehdi Abdi was nominated for the best forward of 2020 AFC Champions League team.

As football lovers across Asia look forward to the return of the AFC Champions League, the-AFC.com continues its quest to find out who the fans consider the Best XI of the 2020 edition.

Over the past three weeks the-AFC.com has seen the goalkeeper and the back four decided with polling for the midfield maestros ongoing, it's time to turn our attention to the forwards and find out who they consider the top trio.

There are nine players in contention for three places at the business end of the field.

Mehdi Abdi stepped up magnificently for Persepolis following the suspension of Isa Alkasir as the 22-year-old scored the equalizer against Al-Nassr in the semi-final, with the Iran champion going on to win the penalty shoot-out.

Abdi gave his side the lead in the final against Ulsan Hyundai FC and despite Persepolis eventually settling for the runner-up spot, the forward proved he is indeed a player for the future.

Ado Onaiwu (Yokohama F. Marinos, JPNA), Lan (Beijing FC, CHN), Abderrazak Hamdallah (Al-Nassr, KSA), Trent Buhagiar (Sydney FC, AUS), Baghdad Bounedjah (Al-Sadd, QAT), Yun Ju-tae (FC Seoul, KOR), Bjørn Johnsen (Ulsan Hyundai, KOR), and Junior Negrao (Ulsan Hyundai, KOR) are the nominees for the best forwards of the 2020 AFC Champions League team.
