Nassaji Legend Dastneshan Dies of Coronavirus

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Nassaji football club legend Nader Dastneshan died from COVID-19 on Friday.

Dastneshan played for Nassaji Mazandaran from 1980 to 1993 and also coached the team from 2013 to 2015.

Dastneshan also coached several other Iranian teams including Steel Azin, Mes Sari, Naft Tehran, Malavan, Sanat Naft, Machine Sazi and Mes Kerman.

Iran’s death toll from the coronavirus exceeded 66,000 as the number of new infected cases and hospital admissions is surging, the Health Ministry said Friday.

Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on April 16 that the pandemic has claimed 328 lives over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in Iran to 66,008.

The total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,194,100 after the detection of 25,261 new cases since Thursday, Sima Sadat Lari added.

More than 1,761,400 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she noted.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 140 million and the death toll has exceeded 3 million.
