Iran Sympathizes with Turkey Over Wildfire Casualties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed sympathy with Turkey over the humanitarian and financial damages caused by multiple raging wildfires, voicing Iran’s readiness to help the northwestern neighbor in dealing with the disaster.
In a statement released on Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh expressed regret at the massive wildfires in southern Turkey that have killed and injured a number of Turkish citizens and have inflicted financial damages.
Voicing the Islamic Republic’s solidarity with the government and nation of “friendly and brotherly” Turkey, the spokesman offered his condolences to the families of victims of the wildfires and expressed Iran’s readiness to assist the Turkish government and people in coping with the disaster.
The death toll from wildfires on Turkey's southern coast has risen to four and firefighters were battling blazes for a third day on Friday after the evacuation of dozens of villages and some hotels.
More than 60 wildfires have broken out across 17 provinces on Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts this week, officials have said. The forestry minister said fires raged on in six provinces. Officials have promised to bring to account anyone found responsible for starting them.
Villages and some hotels have been evacuated in areas popular with tourists and television footage has shown people fleeing across fields as they watched fires close in on their homes.
