Afghan Officials Urged to Punish Perpetrators of Kunduz Mosque Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called on Afghanistan’s authorities to punish those behind a deadly terrorist attack targeting worshippers at a mosque in northern Afghanistan.

Following the tragic explosion in a mosque in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz in which a large number of worshippers lost their lives, Imam Khamenei in a message emphasized punishment of those involved in these terrible crime and the need to prevent such disasters.

According to the website of Ayatollah Khamenei’s office, the text of the message is as follows:

“In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

The bitter and tragic explosion in the mosque of Khanabad region in Kunduz, which led to the loss of the lives of a large number of the praying believers, has grieved us. The Afghan officials in our neighboring, brother country are seriously expected to punish the bloodthirsty perpetrators of this major crime and take all measures to prevent the reoccurrence of such tragedies. I ask God to bestow His blessings upon and elevate the position of the martyrs of this event and ask for urgent healing of the injured and patience and peace for their relatives and survivors.

A suicide bomber attacked the mosque in Kunduz on Friday, killing at least 46 people and wounding more than 140 others. The Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, the Daesh’s branch in the country has ramped up attacks.

The Taliban have vowed to eradicate Daesh.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Taliban said on Saturday that it would not work with the US to eradicate Daesh in Afghanistan.

“We are able to tackle Daesh independently,” Taliban political spokesman Suhail Shaheen told AP, when asked whether the Taliban would cooperate with the US to contain the notorious terrorist group.
