Iran, Kyrgyzstan Weigh Plans for Regional Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Top security officials from Iran and Kyrgyzstan discussed ways to promote cooperation between the two countries to ensure regional security.

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani and Secretary of Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Marat Imankulov held a meeting on the sidelines of the third edition of the Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Stressing the need for regional cooperation between Iran and Kyrgyzstan, Shamkhani said Tehran is able and willing to use its capacities for the development of the region.

He said Tehran and Bishkek can expand relations in the scientific, technical, and transportation fields.

Pointing to the developments in Afghanistan and denouncing the Western plots to destabilize the region, Shamkhani emphasized the need for all countries in the region to help the Afghan people and address the sources of insecurity.

For his part, Imankulov highlighted the importance of bilateral relations with Iran and emphasized the need to expand mutual cooperation, especially in the area of regional security.

The ongoing forum in New Delhi is attended by representatives from Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

The high-level forum reviews the security situation in the region arising from recent developments in Afghanistan. It also discusses measures to address the relevant security challenges and support the people of Afghanistan in promoting peace, security and stability.
