TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s pick for the Ministry of Education failed on Tuesday to garner the minimum number of votes by the parliament for the post.

In an open session of the parliament on Tuesday morning, the lawmakers disqualified Masoud Fayyazi from taking the helm at the Ministry of Education with 140 votes against, 115 in favor and 5 abstentions from a total of 260 votes.

After debates on nominees for Raisi’s cabinet in August, the Iranian Parliament had approved all but one of his picks.

The Ministry of Education has around 900,000 employees, 63 percent of whom are teachers.
