Neutralization, Removal of Sanctions on Agenda: Iranian FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is pressing on with plans to nullify the sanctions and have them lifted with a lasting agreement that would observe the country’s red lines, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said.

In a post on his Twitter account on Wednesday, Amirabdollahian said Tehran is taking both paths to the neutralization and removal of the sanctions.

“Immunizing the country through the course of economic evolution and fair distribution of subsidy payment system is a major strategy,” the Iranian foreign minister added.

“The negotiations for the termination of sanctions are being pursued on the right track with the observance of Iran’s red lines for the achievement of a good, strong and sustainable agreement,” he added.

Iran has made it clear that its immutable decision in the course of Vienna talks on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal is that its red lines must not be crossed by any means.

Iranian officials have repeatedly said the US needs to remove all illegal sanctions against the Islamic Republic in a verifiable manner and offer guarantees that a new US administration will not breach the JCPOA again before it can rejoin the deal.

Former US president Donald Trump unilaterally left the JCPOA in May 2018 and re-imposed the anti-Iran sanctions that the deal had lifted. He also placed additional sanctions on Iran under other pretexts not related to the nuclear case as part of his “maximum pressure” campaign.
