Iran Open to Promotion of Ties with Jordan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed the country’s readiness to broaden the political, economic and trade relations with Jordan.

The top Iranian diplomat met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on the sidelines of the Baghdad Conference in Amman on Tuesday.

Amirabdollahian thanked Jordan for holding the summit and underlined the necessity of expanding cooperation among regional countries in order to strengthen peace, stability and security and to increase economic and trade exchanges, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

He also pointed to the areas in which Iran and Jordan can expand their political and economic relations, voicing Tehran’s readiness to boost political as well as economic and trade ties with Amman.

For his part, King Abdullah said Jordanians hold the Iranian people in high regard. He also called for opening a new chapter in the bilateral ties and regional cooperation between Iran and Jordan.

He added that the regional Muslim nations are destined to cooperate with each another in establishing stability and security among themselves.

Amirabdollahian delivered a speech to the summit on Tuesday, presented Iran’s views about ways to ensure security and development in Iraq, and held meetings with a number of officials attending the conference.

Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and France as well as two new guests — Bahrain and Oman — attended the conference, the first round of which was held in Baghdad in August 2021.
