Iranian Foreign Minister Arrives in Turkey’s Capital

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has traveled to Ankara for holding talks with senior Turkish officials and expressing sympathy with Turkey over the deadly earthquakes that hit the neighboring country last month.

Upon arrival at Ankara’s airport early on Wednesday, Amirabdollahian told reporters that his trip is aimed at expressing sympathy with the government and nation of Turkey over the tragedy.

He said he will visit some of the areas that were hit by the earthquakes.

The Iranian foreign minister added that he will also hold talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on the latest international developments as well as bilateral relations between Tehran and Ankara.

The devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey on February 6 killed at least 45,000 people, rendered millions homeless across almost a dozen cities and caused immediate damage estimated at $34 billion — or roughly 4% of the country’s annual economic output.

It also affected neighboring Syria, killing over 6,000 people, injuring thousands and rendering hundreds of thousands homeless in the Arab country.
