Iran Foreign Currency Deposits Grow by 13%: BIS

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Referring to the 13 percent growth of Iran’s deposits with foreign banks and finance-credit institutions of 44 countries in 2022, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) put the total financial transactions of Iran with these banks and institutions at over $21 billion.

In its latest report released on Wednesday, the BIS put the rate of Iran’s deposits with foreign banks and finance-credit institutions at the end of the 4th quarter of 2022 at more than $19.8 billion, showing a 13 percent hike compared to the same period of a year earlier.

Of that amount, over $11.1 billion had been kept in foreign banks while the rest was in non-banking finance-credit institutions.

Moreover, Iran’s deposits in foreign banks and finance-credit associations had announced over $17.558 billion in 2021.

According to this report, Iran’s commitments with foreign banks and finance-credit institutions at the end of the fourth three months of 2022 exceeded $1.768 billion, registering a five percent growth compared to the previous year’s corresponding period.
