Red Alert Issued for Coastal Districts As India Faces Heavy Downpours (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Continued heavy rainfall triggers flooding in Hyderabad, southern India, and the country's meteorological department forecasts downpours to persist over the next few days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Red Alert' for Telangana for the next two days on Wednesday. According to IMD, some parts of Telangana will experience heavy to very heavy, and even extremely heavy rains, NewStap reported.

Expected areas to be impacted include Karimnagar, Peddapally, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubabad, and Warangal districts, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in isolated parts of Nirmal.

Between 8:30 a.m. on July 26 to 8:30 a.m. on July 27, 2023, heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely to occur in isolated parts of Telangana's Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Janagaon, Siddipet, Yadadri, and Bhuvanagiri districts.

Moreover, Nizamabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Nirmal districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are also likely to occur over Telangana.

IMD has also warned of a light to moderate risk of Flash Flood Risk (FFR) until 5:30 p.m. on July 26, 2023.

Due to the anticipated rainfall in the next 24 hours, surface runoff and inundation may occur in fully saturated soils and low-lying areas over AoC in Telangana's Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalpalle, Mulugu, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Vikarabad, Jagitial, Kamareddy, Medak, Jogulamba Gadwal, Wanaparty, Mahabuba Nagar, and Narayanpet Districts.

In recent rain measurements, the Mehdipatnam circle received the most rain (4.3 cm), followed by the Karwan circle (3.7 cm), and Alwal circle (3.1 cm). The GHMC received 235 complaints of stagnation, of which 202 were resolved and 33 are still being processed. Additionally, they received 27 complaints about tree falls, all of which have been resolved.
