American Ain al-Asad Base in Western Iraq Targeted by Rockets

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A security source confirmed on Thursday that the American Ain al-Asad base in western Iraq came under attack from a yet undisclosed number of Grad rockets.

Iraq's Al-Malumah news website reported that "The Islamic Resistance of Iraq announced on Thursday that it targeted Ain al-Asad airbase in Anbar province with missiles this evening, and the missiles hit the target directly and accurately."

The Islamic Resistance of Iraq had previously issued a statement on Wednesday, disclosing that two US occupation bases, Ain al-Asad in Anbar province and al-Harir in the north of the country, were precisely targeted by drones on Wednesday morning.

The Iraqi resistance had issued prior warnings of its intention to target bases and facilities supervised by American forces.

On Thursday, a barrage of rockets struck a military airbase in Iraq's western province of Anbar, housing US military experts and agencies.

According to an Iraqi army source, the attack took place in the evening when an unspecified number of rockets landed in the Ayn al-Asad Airbase near the town of al-Baghdadi, approximately 190 kilometers northwest of the capital, Baghdad. The attack resulted in no casualties, as reported by an officer from the Iraqi army who spoke to the media.

Following the attack, Iraqi security forces discovered a rocket launcher while conducting searches in the areas surrounding the airbase. Additionally, the troops successfully defused two rockets that were prepared for launch.

Meanwhile, Iraqi police reported that another military base hosting US forces near Baghdad's international airport was also struck by rockets on Thursday. However, no further details regarding this incident were provided.

An armed group identifying itself as "the Islamic Resistance in Iraq" claimed responsibility for the attack in an online statement. The authenticity of this statement could not be independently verified, and no further information regarding the specifics of the attack was provided in the group's statement.
