Tehran Ready to Expand Cooperation with Moscow in Gas Sector: NIGC Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The chief executive of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said the country is ready to enhance cooperation with friendly countries including Russia in the exchange of technology and equipment manufactured in the gas industry.

In an annual meeting of the Russian Gas Society, held through videoconference, Majid Chegeni said, “It is a great honor for me to speak at this prestigious forum as the deputy minister of oil and CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).

“The session is taking place at a time when the energy sector is entering a new era due to regional and global circumstances caused by some processes and unilateral inclinations of some countries. Although such conditions pose some challenges, it does not mean that we are faced with unpleasant situations. On the contrary, we can make the right decisions under current circumstances through strengthening structures and cooperative mechanisms and creating new, creative and profitable opportunities in different areas and overcome the emerging threats and challenges,” Chegeni underlined, Mehr news agency reported.

The consumption of fossil fuels and the process of investment and production of fossil fuels at projects have recently been challenged in the international conferences, he said, warning that some countries’ extremism will not help realize the environmental objectives.

He went on to say that the model of cooperation between Iran and Russia in the gas technology sector can optimally develop in prioritized areas, human resources training, technological exchanges, establishment of joint labs for gas technology development, joint research and development (R&D) centers, promotion of scientific and technological diplomacy, and strong presence in international gas science, technology and innovation events.

By concentrating more on the implementation of the scope of cooperation, it is hoped that the way will be paved for the harmonious and synergistic prosperity of the gas industry, Chegeni added.
