US Conducts Fresh Airstrikes in Eastern Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - US forces launched more airstrikes in eastern Syria near the Iraq border, targeting residential areas and military sites in Deir ez-Zur province, including al-Mayadin and Al-Bukamal, with 10 strikes reported simultaneously on Tuesday morning.

At least 20 people, including women and children, were injured in the attack, but no further details were provided. The United States justifies these airstrikes as part of its counterterrorism efforts.

Syria has consistently criticized these actions, urging the United Nations to intervene and halt US military activities in the country. Since the onset of foreign-sponsored militancy in 2011, Syria has accused Israel, along with its Western and regional allies, of supporting terrorist groups.

The US military has stationed troops in northeastern Syria under the guise of preventing oilfields from falling into Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) hands. Damascus alleges this deployment aims to exploit Syria's mineral wealth. These attacks, coupled with Israeli attacks, worsen the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

Iran condemned the US airstrikes as illegal, emphasizing its advisory role in Syria, which was approved by Damascus, unlike the unconsented US presence.
