Deal in US Talks Requires Assurances on Removal of Sanctions: Iranian Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In order for the negotiations with the US to result in an ultimate deal, it is necessary to respect Iran’s legitimate nuclear rights and guarantee the removal of sanctions, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.

Esmaeil Baqaei told reporters in Oman on Saturday that the third round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US has kicked off at 10 am local time in Muscat.

Like the two previous rounds, the talks are mediate by Oman and the heads of the Iranian and American teams have been lodged in separate halls, he said.

Baqaei said experience proves that achievement of an agreement requires respect for Iran’s legitimate rights in accordance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and assurances about an effective termination of the sanctions against Tehran.

“Iran remains resolute in its principal stances on the necessity for an end to the cruel sanctions and its preparedness to build trust on the peaceful nature of its nuclear program,” he stated.

Iran and the US have held two rounds of talks in Oman and Italy on April 12 and 19 with the purpose of reaching a deal on Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions on Tehran.
