Iranian MPs to Visit Nuclear Reactor in Arak Soon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Members of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission plan to pay a visit to heavy-water reactor in Arak in the near future, a member of the commission said.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Sunday, Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said that several members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission are slated to visit the heavy-water reactor near the central city of Arak soon.

The Parliamentarian further said the exact date of the visit has not been determined yet, adding that the visit to the nuclear facilities in Arak is part of the commission’s duty to monitor implementation of the recent nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

According to a law that requires the Iranian administration to safeguard the nation’s achievements and nuclear rights, the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has a duty to monitor “the proper implementation” of the JCPOA, and is required to submit a report on the issue to the presiding board of the parliament every six months.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA, a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran’s nuclear program, and started implementing it on January 16.

Under the JCPOA, limits were put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans against Tehran.
